- What’s the club about?
The Rim of the World Climbing Club is a social club of outdoor climbing enthusiasts. We have weekly meetups in Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear, California. We host monthly camping trips to different crags in California and surrounding states. We also participate in stewardship activities throughout the year to help maintain our local crags. We do not provide nor warranty instruction or equipment. Our biggest event of the year is an incredible rendezvous weekend!
- Who are the officers and what makes them so special?
Officers are volunteers living locally in the San Bernardino mountains who love to climb and share experiences with other climbers. We take care of booking sites, keeping the website up to date, and perform general day to day tasks that keep the club operating as smoothly as possible. Most of us have day jobs, we pay dues like any other member and sometimes contribute a little extra to make sure all members have a great experience. Please be kind to our volunteers.
- What’s the best way to get more information?
Everyone who is considering climbing with us should enroll HERE. Once you complete the form, a detailed email will be sent to you and you are considered our guest. If you complete payment, we consider you a member with full privileges.
- How much is membership and what is the time period?
ROWCC memberships run annually June-to-May* at $60 a year per person. For the first year of membership, we allow for a two month grace period. For example, If a member joins in March of the current year, they are considered active until the end of May of following year.
- What do I get with my membership and how is the money being spent?
The membership provides you the opportunity to join monthly club trips to various locations around California and surrounding states. We facilitate each trip by booking campsites or scouting boondock locations to accommodate members and their guests. Membership dues cover the cost of campsites, our yearly rendezvous, donating to The Access Fund and The American Safe Climbing Association, and cost of running the club. Our members also enjoy a 10% discount at Bear Valley Outfitters!
- What should I expect during monthly trips?
We generally send out RSVPs to members two weeks or more before a monthly trip and provide all the details needed to get to a chosen destination. There are two kinds of monthly trips; those with paid campsites (included in membership but at a cost to guests) and those in which we boondock or camp in public lands. ROWCC provides a central place to camp and enjoy the outdoors. Preparation on your part may include transportation, camping and climbing gear, climbing partner (s), research of the area (book or web information) and psyche for the send. As we are a social club, ROWCC neither inspects, provides or warranties equipment or information. Any shared information or equipment is between the provider and the receiver. We will not set up topropes for you. For a preview of upcoming trips, please click here.
- Can a member bring guests to monthly meetups?
While priority is given to members, we have generally been able to accommodate guests. Each guest must sign our waiver. Members bringing a guest(s) are in charge of including the number of guests when RSVP’ing for a trip and passing on information about the trip to them. For trips with paid campsites, each guest is asked to contribute $10 per person per night. Given that a yearly membership is $60, it is often recommended that guests join the club and have the cost of their first weekend trip applied towards the membership. We also recommend carpooling since the paid campsite car limits tend to be strict.
- Does the club offer refunds?
We don’t offer refunds and encourage those who have joined to be a part of as many monthly trips as possible. We believe the yearly dues are more than fair considering the benefits. ROWCC finds great places to camp and climb, provides a platform in which to find climbing friends, and hosts an amazing Rendezvous event each year for members to enjoy.
- What do you mean you have awards?
The Rim of the World Climbing Club (ROWCC) awards are meant to inspire your sense of adventure, exploration and personal achievement in the world of climbing. Choose an award as your goal. Track your climbs with the date, location, route name, rating and climb partner. Receive your kudos at the rendezvous ceremony and have your name added to the infamous lists on the website. Check them out here.
- What do I do if I have questions?
Please send us an email at weclimb@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
- How do we connect?
Our club uses GroupMe. Once you complete the enrollment form, you will be emailed links to join the conversation.
- Do you have any merchandise?
Merchandise is always available at the rendezvous or look for opportunities to purchase merchandise at select monthly club trips noted on the invitation.
